[Experiential Disaster Prevention Program]

The Uwajima NPO Center conducted an experiential disaster prevention program at Jonan Junior High School to help junior high school students develop the ability to prepare for disasters.

🔶Catfish School (Disaster Prevention Card Game)

Students were divided into 6 groups to experience a disaster prevention card game. Through the game, they discovered many things, such as how to move heavy objects with items around them, provide first aid, and extinguish fires without a bucket.

🔶 Cardboard bed assembly experience

We invited a lecturer who had experience operating evacuation shelters during the July 2018 heavy rain disaster to teach us about the necessity and benefits of cardboard beds. We learned that they maintain hygiene by providing distance from the floor, can store luggage, and serve as a crime prevention measure. Students who actually lay on them were surprised, exclaiming, "Five people can lie on it and it's fine!"

🔶Oral Care Lecture

We asked students to consider the importance of brushing their teeth even during a disaster. They were very curious about the question, "What do you do if you don't have a toothbrush and there's no water?" We demonstrated how to brush teeth with minimal water by putting one capful of water from a plastic bottle into a paper cup. The students listened intently and commented that they wanted to tell their families about it.

"Learning about disaster prevention through fun, hands-on experience" ── it was a valuable day for fostering the knowledge and initiative necessary during disasters, all with smiles. The Uwajima NPO Center will continue its disaster prevention education in cooperation with the local community.
