[Experience-based disaster prevention program]
The Uwajima NPO Center implemented an experiential disaster prevention program at Jonan Junior High School to help junior high school students develop the ability to prepare for disasters.
🔶 Catfish School (Disaster Prevention Card Game)
The participants were divided into six groups and participated in a disaster response card game.
🔶 Cardboard bed assembly experience
We invited a lecturer who had experience managing evacuation shelters after the heavy rains of July 2018 to teach us about the necessity and effectiveness of cardboard beds. We learned that the distance from the floor ensures hygiene, and that it is also a cost-effective way to store luggage. One student who actually lay down on one exclaimed in surprise, "Is it even safe for five people to sit on it!?"
🔶Oral care course
The program proceeds by asking the students about the importance of brushing their teeth even during disasters. They were fascinated by the question, "What would you do if there was no water and no toothbrush?" They demonstrated brushing teeth using a paper cup and a plastic bottle cap full of water. The students listened attentively and commented, "I want to tell my family about this."

"Learn disaster prevention through fun and hands-on experience" - It was a valuable day where we could develop the knowledge and ability to act in the event of a disaster with smiles on our faces.
