🧸 Disaster prevention is fun! Tips for "emergency situations" learned by parents and children
The disaster prevention NPO "Kaeru Caravan" in Uwajima and disaster prevention specialists conducted a disaster prevention lecture at Uwazu Elementary School. Parents also participated in the lecture, which was held as a class recreation, and it was a valuable time for parents and children to think about disaster prevention together.
In the first part, the children created "disaster preparedness bottles." They chose two items to fill them with, and the instructor said, "That's not enough!", teaching them the importance of being prepared on a daily basis. They mentioned the need for Ramune, Yokan, regular medications, and family information, and some children said, "I'll go buy some right now!"
The second part was about making disaster prevention ponchos using 45L garbage bags. It was impressive to see parents and children cutting the bags and sticking stickers on them to make their own original ponchos. Since wet cotton clothes take more than three hours to dry, wearing them underneath the clothes also helps prevent hypothermia.
After creating their creations, the teacher called for them to perform on the runway, and the day was filled with smiles and applause, making it a day that once again made the students realize that "disaster prevention can be fun."
