🧰 Activity overview
The Uwajima NPO Center conducted an experiential disaster prevention program at Jonan Junior High School.
- Emergency evacuation bags: We encouraged participants to review the bags they have at home and explained the importance of making sure they could actually carry one and evacuate.
- Disaster preparedness bottle: We introduced ways to use items that can be purchased at 100 yen stores, and had the students choose two items to try out.
- Toilets in times of disaster: Based on the experience of the heavy rains in Western Japan, we emphasized the importance of preparing for toilets.
🎯 Purpose of this project
The purpose of the program was to learn about the preparations necessary to protect oneself and one's family in the event of a disaster, and to improve disaster prevention capabilities.
💬 Comment from the person in charge
Many students had left the preparation of evacuation bags to their parents, so we encouraged them to think about what they needed and prepare their own. Some students said they wanted to put their favorite stuffed animals in them, and we shared that this is an effective way to deal with the stress of evacuation life. Even in the quiet atmosphere, there was interest in disaster prevention and active questions, making it a meaningful time.
