7- Overview |
The students were divided into three classrooms and learned about toilets in times of disaster, a disaster prevention bottle workshop, and emergency evacuation bags. They learned how to use portable toilets in times of disaster, and how to use toilets when evacuating at home, and experienced the differences between coagulants, pet sheets, and newspapers. In the disaster prevention bottle workshop, they chose and made their own disaster prevention bottles that can be purchased at any 100 yen shop and can be carried around at all times. They were encouraged to take them home, fill them with extra items they need, and prepare one for each family member at home. I had students memorize what items they should have in their emergency evacuation bags at the very least, and checked the contents of each student's bag. Some items were more than a year past their expiration date, and there were considerable individual differences. I also asked them to review the contents again. The students were pleased, saying that this type of disaster prevention was fun and that disaster prevention had always been difficult, but they were able to learn about it in a fun way. |
