Building relationships of mutual support in the community
Mutual support during a disaster begins with everyday community connections. The Regional Disaster Resilience & Collaboration Division creates opportunities for residents to meet, talk, and build relationships through tea gatherings and other community exchange activities. These daily connections become the foundation for checking on one another, confirming safety, and sharing information during times of disaster.
Learning About Community Disaster Preparedness with Children
Disaster preparedness is not solely the responsibility of adults. The Regional Disaster Resilience & Collaboration Division works with schools, community centers, children's cafeterias, and local organizations to create opportunities for children to learn about disaster preparedness in an enjoyable way. Through hands-on experiences such as making emergency kits and simple portable toilets, children develop an awareness of preparedness at home and in the community.
Connecting Local Memories and Resources to the Future
Community disaster resilience is nurtured not only by understanding the local topography and evacuation routes, but also by sharing the area's history, culture, nature, and memories of daily life. The Regional Disaster Resilience & Collaboration Division works with residents, specialists, and local organizations to visualize the community resources and disaster memories of each district, and promote initiatives to pass them on to the next generation.
Intermediary support for connecting local organizations
Uwajima has many organizations active in various fields, including welfare, childcare, community development, the environment, and education. The Regional Disaster Collaboration Division introduces the activities of these organizations, connecting those in need with the necessary support, and those who wish to participate with opportunities for involvement. Fostering relationships where organizations know each other in peacetime will also lead to better collaboration during disasters.
