Background of Establishment
The Uwajima NPO Center was established in response to the heavy rain disaster of July 2018. Through repeated discussions at the "Ushioni Kaigi," which was launched after the disaster to share information and address urgent issues, the community came to recognize the need for an "intermediary support organization" that could connect people, groups, and essential information while also serving as a coordinator.
In this way, the Uwajima NPO Center was created as a base that could connect civic activities and local strengths, not only during times of disaster but also for long-term community development afterward.

Our Role So Far
Since its establishment, the center has played a cross-sector role in supporting the region by connecting local residents, community groups, NPOs, government bodies, social welfare organizations, and businesses.
Although its starting point was disaster response, one of the center’s most important foundations has been the steady development of visible, trust-based networks in ordinary times, building relationships that can support one another when needed.
Through its ongoing activities, the center has also addressed not only disaster-related issues but broader concerns involving community connections and the future vitality of the region.

A New Phase Starting This Fiscal Year
Starting this fiscal year, the Uwajima NPO Center is entering a new phase.
This is not a departure from its past work. Rather, it is an effort to further develop the center’s founding role of “connecting” people and organizations into a form that meets the present needs of Uwajima.
With disaster preparedness as its core, the center will advance an integrated approach that combines community support, youth participation, and information sharing, while placing greater emphasis on fostering collaboration in everyday life among local residents, organizations, schools, businesses, and government.
By positioning disaster preparedness within daily community life, nurturing the next generation of local leaders, making regional challenges more visible, and building practices that lead into the future, Uwajima NPO Center is stepping forward into its next stage.
