Forming a Disaster Relief Heavy Equipment Operator Team in Uwajima
While Clean the Coast is dedicated to marine debris collection, its other goal is to cultivate a team of heavy equipment operators in Uwajima capable of responding to disasters.
We want to increase the number of comrades who can act locally.
In times of disaster, heavy equipment is often needed for tasks such as removing earth and sand, driftwood, and disaster waste. However, even with heavy equipment, if there are no personnel who can operate it safely and no comrades who can work together, it is not possible to provide sufficient support on site. If you are interested in our activities, please apply using this form.
Therefore, it is crucial to continuously practice, enhance skills, and increase the number of interested comrades during normal times. By accumulating field experience through marine debris collection and ongoing training for disaster relief, we aim to foster a local capacity to act in support.

By actually operating heavy equipment and engaging in slope climbing practice, we identified the skills needed for the future and challenges for more practical training. It is crucial not to make practicing itself the sole objective, but to review its outcomes and challenges and reflect them in future training content.
Moving forward, we will prioritize safety and continue to consider practice content that simulates real-world scenarios, aiming to improve both our skills and collaborative framework for disaster relief activities.

On May 24, 2026, Clean the Coast, a partner organization of the Uwajima NPO Center, conducted a heavy equipment practice session at the Actio Uwajima Office Takagushi Warehouse. Three participants used two pieces of heavy equipment to practice climbing a prepared mound.
