Course Overview
At Yoshida Junior High School, disaster prevention courses with different content were held for each grade level. It was a time for students to thoroughly learn practical experiences, from the basics of disaster prevention to first aid and preparedness techniques.
Activities for each grade level
- 1st Grade: Lecture based on disaster experience from the July 2018 Heavy Rain (Disaster Prevention Specialist)
- 2nd Grade: First aid practical training using cling film, etc. (Anshindo Saijo Branch)
- 3rd Grade: Making disaster prevention bottles (Uwajima NPO, Female Disaster Prevention Leaders)
- Disaster Prevention Specialist Exam Experience in Quiz Format
Lectures
For the 1st graders, it was an opportunity to learn about the damage caused by the West Japan Heavy Rain for the first time, which helped raise their awareness of disaster prevention.
In the first aid session for 2nd graders, they learned and experienced practical hemostasis and fracture response techniques using readily available cling film.
3rd graders challenged themselves to create "disaster prevention bottles" using items from 100-yen shops, realizing the importance of daily preparedness.
They also enjoyed learning about disaster prevention through a quiz that incorporated questions from the Disaster Prevention Specialist Exam.

Towards a unified goal
It was a valuable time for students to learn to prioritize "saving their own lives" during a disaster and the importance of collaboration with their families and local communities..
