2025.6.13 Disaster prevention lecture at Uwazu Elementary School (Frog Caravan)

🧸 Disaster preparedness is fun! Learning "what to do in an emergency" with parents and children

The NPO "Kaeru Caravan" and a disaster prevention specialist from Uwajima City held an outreach disaster preparedness lecture in Uwatsu. Guardians also participated in this lecture, which was held as a class recreation, making it a valuable time for parents and children to think about disaster preparedness together.

In the first part, participants created "disaster prevention bottles." They chose two items to put inside the bottle.

From the instructor's words, "Two isn't enough, is it?", participants learned the importance of daily preparedness. They thought about what essential items to put inside, such as ramune, yokan, medicine, and family information, and some even said, "I'm going to buy them right away!"

In the second part, participants made "disaster prevention ponchos" using 45L garbage bags. It was impressive to see parents and children cutting bags, attaching stickers, and creating their own original ponchos. Wet cotton clothes take more than 3 hours to dry, so wearing a poncho over them helps prevent hypothermia.

After creating them, the teachers called for a runway show, and everyone was full of smiles looking at each other's ponchos. It was a time where they could feel that "disasters are scary, but disaster preparedness is fun."
