April 19, 2025: Implemented a cleanup of marine debris on an inaccessible coast

On the evening of Saturday, April 19, 2025, a "difficult-to-access coastal cleanup" activity was held at Washigahama in Tsushima Town, Uwajima City, co-sponsored by Disaster NPO Uwajima 7・7, clean the coast, and the Uwajima NPO Center.

■ Purpose of the Activity

Along the Uwa Sea coast, driftwood and washed-up plastic waste are becoming problems in various areas. Among these, places that are difficult to access by road tend to have their cleanups postponed, leading to accelerated environmental degradation. To break this cycle, the "clean the coast" project plans 20 cleanup activities per year, and this was the first such activity.

■ Activity Content and Method

The cleanup site this time, "Washigahama," is inaccessible by land, so the cleanup operation was carried out by traveling by rubber boat from the sea. Participants used trash bags and tongs to carefully collect trash washed ashore, while prioritizing safety.

■ Participant Feedback

Positive feedback was received, such as, "It's like muscle training, and it feels good afterward. If we keep this up, both the sea and our bodies will become healthier."

■ Future Outlook

This activity is planned to continue, with a goal of 20 events per year. We aim to deepen collaboration with more citizens and organizations, establishing this as a sustainable regional cleanup model.
