-Through this experience, participants will develop an interest in disaster prevention and mitigation, and will be able to act calmly in the event of a future Nankai Trough earthquake or other recent disasters, and will develop a sense of urgency and preparedness.

・Volunteer courses to learn know-how for disaster relief. Learn what you can do yourself in peacetime or during a disaster, and the structure and mechanics of a house, so that you can prepare to help as a volunteer in an emergency.

In the morning, we learned how to rescue a car, starting with a classroom session and then actually jacking up a car.

The students learned how to tie knots for towing, how to wrap chains, and how to connect a dead battery. Everyone learned by doing, even in the snow.

In the afternoon, we changed locations and went to a house that was being demolished, where we learned how to drive nails in with an impact and a hammer, and also experienced removing floorboards. Everyone was engrossed in the work.

I had no idea how much attention to detail goes into entering homes as part of disaster relief efforts, so I learned a lot, such as where to put masking tape and where to hammer in nails.
