It began in Iwate Prefecture in 2011, the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and people all over the country (including at home) light sparklers at the same time to deliver them to those who have become stars, to remember the experience of the disaster, and to pass it on to children who have not experienced it. |

Six years have passed since the heavy rains of July 2018... We spent time talking and caring for those who have died as a result of the disaster and their loved ones, while lighting sparklers. Starting with the evening preparations, many junior and senior high school students and members of the general public came to volunteer, and we were able to finish the preparations early. Starting last year, an executive committee was formed to run Sparkler Night. It takes a lot of time to prepare every year, but when I see the sparklers on this day, it all feels worth it. We were able to spend a relaxing time lighting sparklers, and it was a moment when everyone's hearts became one. Since it's Tanabata, I wrote my wishes on the strips of paper. |
